Le preposizioni sono parti fondamentali di un testo poiché permettono di collegare fra loro i vari elementi di una frase. Mentre in italiano vi sono le preposizioni semplici e quelle articolate, in inglese non vi è questa distinzione ed esse sono inoltre invariabili per genere e numero. In questa lezione imparerai a conoscere le preposizioni in inglese.
Info 1: Le preposizioni semplici
Vi sono alcune preposizioni che si possono considerare i corrispettivi inglesi delle preposizioni semplici italiane. Osserva la tabella.

Info 2: Le preposizioni di stato in luogo
Le preposizioni di stato in luogo si utilizzano per indicare dove si svolge un'azione o dove si trova una persona o un oggetto. Le tre preposizioni principali sono at, in e on.

Info 3: Le preposizioni di moto
Le preposizioni di moto indicano un qualche tipo di movimento nell'azione. Alcune preposizioni di stato in luogo possono acquisire significato di moto se rette da verbi che indicano movimento.

Nota bene: il verbo to Arrive regge entrambe le preposizioni at e in.
Esempio
I had just arrived at the office when my husband called me to let me know he arrived in Spain.
Ero appena arrivata in ufficio quando mio marito mi ha chiamato per farmi sapere che era arrivato in Spagna.
Info 4: Le preposizioni con i mezzi di trasporto
Quando si vuole indicare come ci si sta spostando, se a piedi o con un mezzo di trasporto, ci sono due preposizioni che vengono utilizzate: on e by. On si utilizza quando ci si sta spostando a piedi con l'espressione on foot, by si utilizza con tutti gli altri mezzi di trasporto, siano essi veicoli, aerei, imbarcazioni o mezzi pubblici.
Esempio
Before getting my driving license I went to work by bus. Now I go by car.
Prima di prendere la patente andavo a lavoro in bus. Ora vado in macchina.
Il verbo to Get è utilizzato con alcune preposizioni per indicare che si sta salendo o scendendo da un mezzo di trasporto. In particolare, per dire che si sta salendo si utilizzano le preposizioni in, into, on e onto mentre per dire che si sta scendendo si utilizzano off e out of.
Esempio
We need to go, so get off your bike and get onto my car.
Dobbiamo andare, quindi scendi dalla bici e sali sulla mia macchina.
