Info 1: Shall
Shall è un Future Simple, ma ha valore di presente. Si usa con I e We alla forma interrogativa. In italiano può essere reso con devo o dovrei, ma spesso non si traduce.

Must si usa al Present Simple. È uguale per tutte le persone e si traduce in italiano con dovere.

USO DI Must
Must può avere diversi significati, tutti al Present Simple:

Nota bene: Must + Have + Participio Passato si usa per formulare deduzioni affermative riguardo ad eventi passati.

Info 3: Have to
Have to non è un modale. Ha tutti i tempi verbali ed è usato anche come verbo sostitutivo di Must. È sempre seguito dalla forma base del verbo. Si traduce con dovere in italiano.

Should è un Present Conditional e si traduce con dovrei. Al passato si usa Should + Have + Participio Passato (avrei dovuto).

USO DI should
Should può avere diversi significati:

Nota bene: Should si usa anche per esprimere un'eventualità, che in italiano viene resa con il congiuntivo imperfetto.

Info 5: Ought to
Ought to è un Present Conditional e si traduce con dovrei. Al Perfect Conditional diventa: Ought to + Have + Participio Passato. Si usa raramente alla forma negativa.

Uso di ought to
Come Should, Ought to si usa per esprimere probablità e supposizioni logiche al presente e al passato. A differenza di Should, invece, Ought to si usa per dare consigli oggettivi che seguono le norme sociali.

Dovresti chiamare tua nonna e ringraziarla per il regalo.

Had better corrisponde all'italiano sarebbe meglio che / farei meglio a. È uguale per tutte le persone ed è seguito dall'infinitivo senza to.

Uso di had better
Had better si usa per dare consigli su una situazione specifica nel presente o nel futuro.

Info 7: Need
Need può essere sia un verbo normale che un modale. Come modale si usa principalmente alla forma negativa (Needn't) ed è seguito dalla forma base del verbo o, al passato, da Have + Participio Passato. In italiano si traduce con dovere o essere necessario.
Esempio:

Non devi preoccuparti di questo.
You needn't have bought these flowers for me.
Non era necessario che mi comprassi questi fiori.
Nota bene: Need può avere una costruzione oggettiva (Need + complemento + infinitivo) e può essere usato al passivo (Need + gerundio)

Info 8: Be to, Be expected to, Be bound to
Anche Be to seguito dalla forma base del verbo si usa per esprimere dovere. Il verbo to Be può essere usato al presente (Am/Is/Are) o al passato (Was/Were). Be expected to e Be bound to sono due varianti di quest'espressione.

Se affermativa, questa espressione indica un obbligo dovuto a circostanze esterne. Se negativa, indica una mancanza di necessità.

Non è necessario che partecipiamo a questa riunione.
BE bound to
Questa espressione sottolinea l'inevitabilità di un fatto.
Esempio
The Prime Minister is bound to call an election.
Il primo ministro deve convocare le elezioni.
Info 9: Be supposed to, Be due to, Owe
Be supposed to seguito dalla forma base del verbo può essere usata al presente e al passato con diversi significati:

Be due seguito dalla forma base del verbo può avere tre diversi significati:

Owe
Owe significa dovere a inteso come essere debitori di qualcuno. È un verbo normale.
