Déterminer les limites MÉTHODE 1.
Sur la base du domaine de définition, considère quelles limites doivent être vérifiées :
La plus petite valeur du domaine de définition ? Souvent − ∞ -\infty − ∞
La plus grande valeur du domaine de définition ? Souvent + ∞ +\infty + ∞

Continuité Définition Une fonction est continue en un point si la limite en ce point existe. Une fonction continue peut alors être dessinée « sans lever le stylo ». Beaucoup de fonctions de base sont continues : fonctions quadratiques, polynomiales, racines, exponentielles, trigonométriques, logarithmes etc.
Méthode pour les exercices types On s’intéresse souvent à des fonctions affines par intervalles. Sur chaque intervalle, la fonction est affine donc continue et le but et de déterminer si la fonction est continue en tous les points. Il suffit de vérifier la continuité aux points d’intersection.

Détermine les points où la continuité doit être vérifiée.

Calcule la limite à gauche et la limite à droite en ces points.
3.
Compare les limites :
Si les limites sont identiques, la fonction est continue en ce point ; si les limites sont différentes, la fonction est discontinue en ce point.
