Los informative essays deben seguir la siguiente estructura.
Title
Escribe un título que se ajuste de manera objetiva al tema del ensayo. No seas creativo: debe quedar claro de qué trata el essay.

Opening
En el opening se introduce el tema del que se va a hablar en el essay. Es una descripción general del tema, por lo que hay que intentar condesarla en una frase que indique qué es lo que se va a enseñar o divulgar. Aprovecha para explicar algún concepto si es necesario para comprender el resto del texto.

Greenpeace is a non-profit organization which prevents environmental damages. It is independent, which means that it relies on voluntary donations to confront the effects of climate and animal issues. |
Body
En el cuerpo del essay se desarrolla el tema en cuestión: aporta detalles históricos, información específica y datos veraces distribuidos entre diferentes párrafos. Intenta incluir datos interesantes o desconocidos.

Greenpeace was founded in Canada in 1971 by Irving and Dorothy Stowe. It started as a small anti-war group that sailed to Amchitka island off the coast of Alaska to try and stop nuclear testing in the Pacific. The name of the organization comes from the ship used to achieve this goal. Now it has a presence in 55 countries across the world and 3.2 million members. The main objective of Greenpeace is to stop climate change, avoid the pollution of the oceans and protect the biodiversity of the world. It uses peaceful protest and social campaigns to face governments. Among its major victories are the the elimination of toxic chemicals from five companies’ products and the implementation of a zero-waste policy in Buenos Aires. |

El informative essay debe centrarse en las evidencias y hechos objetivos, por lo que no se deben aportar opiniones, salvo en la conclusión, ya que el propósito es informar al lector y no persuadirlo. Hay que emplear un lenguaje formal y es frecuente el uso de oraciones pasivas.
