Notion: The app which can simplify your life

Notion
Have you heard of Notion? It's a platform where you can take notes, plan projects and set goals to master all aspects of life. Notion can it can help you organise not only your school and work life, but your personal life too.

What exactly is Notion?

Sometimes it's a challenge to balance homework, exams, sports, hobbies and time with your family or friends. Notion can help you to remember and prepare for everything.

Notion describes itself as an "All-in-One Workspace". It's a place where you can store all your data, take notes, organise your calendar and even manage group work.

What can I do with Notion?

When you create a folder and open a page, there’s endless possibilities for what you can do with that page. For one thing, you can take notes as if you've opened a Word document. So, if you're sitting in a biology class and want to write down what you're discussing, you can take notes on it. But what makes Notion so special is the ability to insert and link almost anything you want. If you want to insert an image, a video, a website article, an audio file, a PDF, a mind map or anything else, you can do so with just a few clicks.

What’s also convenient is that in Notion you can create mathematical formulas and symbols easily, which has always been a rather tedious job in Word.

Within each folder, you can create as many pages and subpages as you like. Furthermore, there are an infinite number of templates that you can fill with your own content. You will find templates for simple notes, to-do lists, tables, calendars, timelines, pictures, videos, audios, PDFs, web links, files, playlists, weekly planners, travel planners, habit trackers, job searches, learning methods, mood boards, organisation systems and much more! But you can also create your own templates or use those that are created and shared by other users. You can also organise group work on Notion and work together on a project.

How does Notion work?

Notion is cloud-based, which means that all data is stored in a cloud and you can access it from anywhere at any time. You can use Notion via the website, or download the desktop app to your computer or your phone. If your computer crashes or you lose your phone, don't worry about your notes - you can access them from another computer or your new phone. The only downside is that you can't get very far without an internet connection. To open and view the content, you need internet access. You can also work offline for a while but for the data to be saved and synchronised, you have to connect to the Internet when you want to close Notion.

Notion offers four different plans you can work with. There are two individual plans and two plans for companies and large groups.

The individual plans are especially suited for pupils and students, as they offer everything you need for school. The cheapest version is even free! This plan is called Personal. It has 5 MB of storage capacity and allows you to share notes with 5 selected guests. So if you're creating notes with your friends at school or preparing a group assignment, this is a particularly useful feature.

The second option for students is called Personal Pro and costs around £4.99 per month. But watch out! If you are enrolled in a school or university, you can enter the email address of your educational institution and receive the Personal Pro plan for free! The advantage of this plan is that it has unlimited storage space, you can share your content with an unlimited number of guests and your deleted content can be found in the recycling bin for 30 days. So if you've deleted something you need again, you can easily restore it.

What are the advantages of Notion?

Notion is extremely versatile and very easy to use. There are examples for how to use the most common functions and most of them are pretty obvious. However, you can also be as creative as you like. Besides the templates, there are cover images, icons, coloured page options and you can even insert background images. Organisation is guaranteed with Notion! You can even insert links to other pages, so you can create a network of your notes. Thanks to the sidebar, you also always have an overview of where you are.

What are the drawbacks of Notion?

Since Notion is very versatile, it takes a bit of time to get your bearings and experiment with all the possibilities. The simplest features don't require an introduction, but to understand all the tools, you might need to spend a few hours. Fortunately, there are blogs and videos that can help you and give you tips.

One of the main drawbacks is that the Personal plan does not allow you to recover notes you have deleted. So if you delete something by mistake, it's gone forever! That's why it's even more worthwhile to switch to the Personal Pro plan.

Is it really worth it?

This is not an easy question to answer. Everyone has to find out for themselves if they like Notion. But in principle, the app is very popular and attracts a lot of new customers. So the best thing to do is to try it out!
