How can I create my own studygram?

Describe the image
Studygram is a combination of the words study and Instagram. The idea is to run your own Instagram account where you post your academic journey, sharing tips and tricks for learning, creating a community to motivate others and also to keep you motivated. By combining learning with creativity, studying becomes less tiring and can even be fun.

What is a studygram?

During the pandemic, studygrams gained lots of followers on Instagram and Tumblr as they became popular among students. You can compare a studygram to an Instagram diary, except that this one is about learning and anyone can read it. Ideally, you share an article or story every day with your followers.

This can be very helpful, especially if you struggle to stick to a plan. In fact, by sharing with a community, you put a little more pressure on yourself not to let your followers down.

What does a studygram consist of?

Here's a typical week in the life of a studygram creator: On Monday morning you find out that you have a Biology test next week. To stay motivated and manage to revise the topic in a week, you sit at your desk and come up with a plan. What topics are going to be covered in the test? When do you want to finish studying? What are your goals? For example, you could write a revision plan on a piece of paper and decorate it with markers and coloured pencils. Then, take a photo of the sheet and share it with your followers. This will motivate you to follow the plan so you don't let yourself or your followers down.

Then it's time to get to work: write notes, make lists and work together with your classmates. You can find some useful posts about different learning methods on the blog; it's worth having a look at them.

Sharing a bit about your student life sometimes can also motivate you. It's nice to be able to brag a little, so if you've written an amazing set of notes, you can share them proudly on your studygram. You can also be upfront and say when something doesn't go as planned, maybe someone in your community can help!

Principles

When managing a studygram, it's important to always keep a few points in mind:

Be consistent: Follow your study plan, but also share posts regularly. If your posts are hindering your study, let your followers know, they will understand.

Don't get distracted on social media: If you have trouble concentrating and find yourself spending too much time on your studygram, take a break. Remember, "likes" don't matter but your marks do!

Be honest: Social media is known for its reputation for creating a false sense of reality. You should be honest and you can even let your followers know when you’re not feeling motivated, maybe someone can help!

Don't share false information: Only share things you have already tested and always indicate where you got your information from.

Advantages and disadvantages of studygrams

One of the advantages of a studygram is the possibility to motivate and inspire others. Being creative is fun and with that studying immediately becomes easier.

However, it's important that you don't get distracted by social media. The priority should always be learning. Try not to spend more time than necessary on social media. After all, it is "just" a social media account and if you have to disappoint your followers, it is not the end of the world.

Conclusion

Studygrams are social media accounts where it's all about studying: you can share colourful weekly study plans, reveal tips and tricks for learning more effectively, and maybe you can even show what a bad revision day looks like too. Since the pandemic, studygrams have grown in popularity because it's easier to study knowing you're not alone. The aim is to motivate both yourself and others to learn. So if you like to work creatively, if you like social media and are ready to manage an account, a studygram could be for you.
